Bill Swearingen, 71, of Hopkinsville

William “Bill” Swearingen, age 71, of Hopkinsville, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at his home.

He was born September 11, 1952, in Woodstock, Illinois, to the late Ralph and Mary Rose (Silk) Swearingen.

Bill was married to the love of his life, Betty, on September 16, 1972.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Bill served his country as an aircraft turbine engine repairman, a role that showcased his mechanical aptitude. After his military service, he dedicated 20 years of his career to Metalsa as an electrical technician.

Bill could fix anything he set his hands on, a talent that often made him the go-to person in times of need – if it was broken, Bill could fix it. He enjoyed building model cars as a hobby. He also loved the outdoors where he spent countless hours camping, fishing, and hunting.

A huge fan of country music, Bill and Betty loved to attend the CMA Fest in Nashville where they enjoyed not only the music but the time spent together. Above all, Bill loved his family and especially being “Pepaw” to his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Dose.

Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Cook Swearingen; his daughter, Julie Swearingen Jones and husband David of Hopkinsville; grandson, Preston Jones; granddaughter, Connar Margaret Jones; brother-in-law, Edward Dose of Crystal Lake, Ill., and his beloved nieces and nephews.
