Since 1966, the Cadiz Rotary Club has been offering a hand up, and not a handout, to the youth and senior citizens of Trigg County.
No greater display of reciprocal generosity has come this week until Thursday night at the Cadiz Baptist Church Annex, when “Night No. 4” of the 57th Annual Cadiz Rotary Radio Auction opened with a presentation from leadership of the Trigg County Schools and Cadiz Baptist Church Christian Academy.
For years, district principals, teachers and students have bought the message of investing in oneself.
Trigg County Elementary School Principal Lindsey Kinslow told the crowd she could take no credit for this year’s cash-saving efforts.
Trigg County Intermediate School Principal Brian Futrell said each week brought a unique challenge that was met and exceeded.
Trigg County Middle School Principal Amy Breckel noted things stayed moving all year, leading to a strong campaign.
Trigg County High School Principal Tim Bush brought humor to the table, and another bold effort from the Wildcats.
Tanna Bush, director of the nearby Academy, said the families of her 41 students once again came through.
In all, it was $29,055.93 from the schools alone — not to mention the night’s auction total of $26,353.40 through the combination of live, online and Country Store sales.
Because of donor generosity, a $15,000 promised Century Club match from A Friend of Rotary was met — allowing for the first steps toward a brand-new 15-passenger van for the Trigg County Senior Citizens Center, courtesy of a landmark partnership between the Cadiz Rotary Club and the Trigg County Fiscal Court. Officials noted early Thursday that the non-profit organization has committed up to $50,000 toward the van purchase, with any surpassed goals thoroughly welcomed.
Rotary President and Auction Co-Chair Ashley Joiner, alongside News Edge President & CEO Beth Mann, shared further good news.
The final Friday night brings brimming optimism, with plenty of items remaining.
In honor of Mark Pope’s hiring at the University of Kentucky, the News Edge Media Group will be dressing casual at a cost — with an unnamed Trigg County Wildcats fan matching the total donation.
A pair of UK men’s basketball tickets, courtesy of Representative Mary Beth Imes, will be up for grabs — as will an autographed basketball from Lyon County state champion, 2024 Mr. Basketball, KHSAA all-time scoring leader and UK men’s basketball signee Travis Perry.
Genesis Express is also bringing their famous fish fry.
