Christian County Public Schools officials have announced seven students have been named Governor’s Scholars for 2024.

This summer, the students chosen will participate in an intensive, all-immersive five-week learning experience on one of three Kentucky college campuses.

Those chosen: Cari-Bella Fowler, Jesse Gilkey, Jada Miller, Bradley Schmitt and Lillian Westerfield of Christian County High School; and Allison Delahunt and Rebecca Wood from Hopkinsville High School.

Five students were selected as alternates to the program.

These students began their application process last fall, and learned of their acceptance into the program in mid-April. It is provided free of charge to students through partnerships across the state, the Kentucky Legislature and the Office of the Governor.

CCPS District Assessment Coordinator and District GSP Representative Zachary Hibbs noted the application process is “highly demanding, with students vying for coveted spots against top contenders from across the state.”

GSP originated in 1983 as a result of Kentucky leaders’ concerns that the state’s “best and brightest” were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere, without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home.
