Billy Earl Sumner, 91, of Cadiz

Funeral services for 91-year-old Billy Earl Sumner, of Cadiz, will be 11 AM Friday at Goodwin Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Trigg Memory Acres.

Visitation will be after 4 PM Thursday.

Survivors include:
A sister, Marie Parker, of Hopkinsville;
Three grandsons: William Sumner, of Cadiz, James Sumner, of Cadiz, and David Sumner of Jackson, Tennessee;
And special family members and caregivers, Deborah and Jeff Kellogg, of Cadiz.

He died at 1:36 AM, Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Brookdale Clarksville Memory Care in Clarksville, Tennessee.

He was born June 4, 1932, in Golden Pond, the son of late Eulis O. Sumner and Cordie Sumner Broadbent (‘nee Futrell).

He proudly served his country as a light vehicle driver in the United States Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal.

Upon returning to Trigg County, he established Sumner Welding and Backhoe, a business he owned and operated for over 50 years, in addition to farming and land development endeavors.

A man of boundless energy, he was rarely still and he truly enjoyed the pleasure of working. He also enjoyed socializing and never missed an opportunity to engage in lively conversations with friends, neighbors, or anyone he met. He was an avid fan of UK basketball and football teams.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Dunn Sumner; his son, William “Butch” Sumner; a brother, Wilmer “Bruno” Sumner; and two sisters, Dorothy Bryant and Jane Lowery.
