Less than three weeks removed from the primary election, candidates for non-partisan races in Christian County have filed with last week’s deadline now passed.

All three of the three seats on the Christian County School Board will have contested races in November. In District 1, Erin Westerfield, appointed to the position by the school board last month, will be opposed by David Webster, who filed to run for the seat in January and applied for the same vacancy filled by Westerfield when board member Jeff Moore resigned.

In District 4, board member Rebecca Pepper will face opposition from Caleb Ballard. Pepper was appointed to the board in December of 2022 following the resignation of Mike Walker. Pepper faced a write-in campaign from Ballard in a special election last November with Pepper defeating Ballard with 78% of the vote.

In District 2, Ambrea Watkins, who was appointed to the board last November following the resignation of Tiffany Mumford Brame, will be opposed by Margo Pickens.

School board seats are staggered four-year terms with Districts Three and Five on the ballot in 2026.

While the primaries last month decided the candidates for Hopkinsville City Council, one councilwoman isn’t ready to give up her seat just yet. Incumbent Ward 1 councilwoman Natasha Sophia Francis, who was defeated by Vance Smith by eight votes in the Republican primary, has filed as a write-in candidate. Also on the ballot for Ward 1 will be Democrat Markeeta Oldham Wilkerson.

In Oak Grove, ten people have filed for the six seats on the city council. Incumbents Jean Leavell, Janet Edwards, Edward Cook, Isaiah Spencer, Richard Baker, and John Campbell have all filed along with newcomers Chance Summers, Timothy Lawrence Rosser, Leah Wright, and Carlo Gentleman.

Mayor Jackie Oliver is in the middle of her first four-year term.

In Crofton, seven people are seeking election with six seats available. Incumbents Anthony Durham, Reta Fleming, Gregory Paul Owen, James Grace, Wanda Croft, and Wendell Alexander have filed for another term as has newcomer Jeffrey Chandler.

In Pembroke, three incumbents and one newcomer have filed for a two-year term on the city council. Walter Bell, Karen Pyle, and Joe Rives have filed for another term while Kevin Earwood has filed for a first term.

In Lafayette, three incumbents — Sandra Torres, Timothy Hancock, and Norma Banks — and newcomer Brandon Borneman have filed for the four city council seats.

Four people have filed for a seat on the Soil and Water Conservation Board. They are Romey Bardwell, Mark Claxton, Lanny Boyd, and Scotty Parsons
