Judge Sets Competency Hearing For Little

A final hearing date to determine the competency of the woman accused of assaulting the wife of Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp has been set for October. Seeking to overturn the opinion that she is not competent to stand trial that was handed down by the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center, Lori Ann Little returned to Christian Circuit Court Wednesday. Judge Andrew Self, citing the abnormal length of the case, set the final hearing date in the matter for October 6th.

Little's attorney Nancy Calloway told Judge Self her client has a gynecological exam scheduled for September 16 that is a part of her evaluation process, with her requested second opinion on her competency to come from psychiatrist, Dr. Robert Granacher. Calloway then stated other undetermined diagnostic tests for her client would follow. Judge Self then informed Calloway that the September 16 physical exam will stand as Little's final test, as his court has been patient with Little and her requests.

Commonwealth's Attorney Lynn Pryor concurred with Judge Self, stating the October 6 date is sufficient for her office. Pryor told the News Edge she and her staff are ready to bring this issue to an end.

The News Edge spoke with defense attorney Nancy Calloway outside the courtroom, with Calloway stating both she and her client are looking forward to proving Little is competent for trial.

Little is accused in the December 2010 attack on Henrietta Kemp at her home on Deepwood Drive.
