UPDATE - Moderate Risk Of Severe Weather Tonight

The region continues to be under a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms through the night. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are possible. The News Edge spoke late this afternoon with Rick Shanklin, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Paducah.

Forecasters have been talking over the past couple of days about very strong storms, including the possibility of stronger tornadoes and large hail.

As for the timing of storms that develop, Shanklin says it could be very late tonight when the worst of the storms hit.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the area until 7:00am Friday morning. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour are occurring and repeating over the same areas in many instances where storms have developed earlier today, this coming on top of 1 to 3 inches that fell across the region last night. Additional heavy rainfall amounts from 1 to 3 inches are expected, bringing storm totals to as much as 5 or 6 inches in some locations.
