Burnam Subject Of Friday New Era Editorial

Trigg County Sheriff Ray Burnam and his use of social media is the subject of an editorial and cartoon that recently appeared in the Kentucky New Era. Friday's Opinion Page of the paper included an editorial and a cartoon by Princeton resident Rickie McKinney that are critical of Sheriff Burnam's use of social media to communicate with the public.

The editorial cites the Sheriff's recent standoff with Commonwealth's Attorney G. L. Ovey concerning evidence and Burnam's investigation of the 10-year old Chantell Humphries murder case. The writers are also critical of a January 20th post by Burnam concerning what he would do if federal gun laws are enacted, in particular deputizing the entire county which would allow citizens to keep their guns.

The editorial states even the most strident gun rights advocate should be should be suspicious of Burnam's behavior, adding that the Sheriff is simply playing to fears, and feeding his ego.
