The City of Hopkinsville and its citizens now have a new tool in their belts to protect their valuables from flooding with the new USGS Inundation Map. Michael Griffin who is a Deputy Director within the US Geologic Survey presented their inundation maps to Hopkinsville Surface and Stormwater Utility.
The inundation map uses specific elevation data and live stream gauges to determine where Hopkinsville will flood based on how much rain we have received. Community Development Services Director Steve Bourne says this will help Hopkinsville citizens better prepare for floods.

This is the first USGS inundation map for any city in the state of Kentucky and Griffin says he gives credit to the City of Hopkinsville for working hard on this initiative. The map is public and you can view it here. Click on Mapper and then on Hopkinsville.
