Trigg County Honors Veterans And Active Duty

Veterans Parade Grand Marshall Frank Boone says caring communities means more than a serving soldier can ever express. Boone, who is a U S Naval Reserve Vietnam Veteran, has served with the Trigg County Ambulance service for more than 40 years and has also served as Deputy Sheriff. He recalled the caring of a small community when he spent his first Christmas in Vietnam.

Boone says, although there was an anti-war movement in the United States, he was reassured that people really cared.

Boone led off the parade that started at Trigg County Schools and continued along Main Street to West Cadiz Park. Community Education Director Brenda Southwick noted the reason the school system was one of the few in session.

Southwick recognized Voice of Democracy winner Matthew Skinner, Patriots Pin winner Alex Ethridge, National Citizen Education Teacher Award winners Tina Lane, Tina Davis and Amy Breckel. She also recognized Special Veteran's Letter Contest winners Intermediate Student Shane Wallace and Mallory Finley from the Middle School.  And Southwick recognized Good Citizen Award Winner X'Zashea Mayes and the winners of the High School Social Studies contests.

And, Trigg County Judge Executive Hollis Alexander presented the Judge Executives' trophy to Lake Barkley Guttering, the Mayor's trophy to Paul Godwin, the James Thomas DAR trophy to Girl Scout Troop 1912 and Grand Marshall award to Sonny Litchfield.
