Christian County Grand Jury Indictments

The Christian County Grand Jury returned indictments against 34 people Friday including one charged with murder and another charged with impersonating a police officer. 50-year old Dennis Earl Sills, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on one charge of Murder-Domestic Violence. Court records say on October 11th Sills allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, 38-year old Lisa Roach, at a home on Sheena Avenue. Reports say a caller to ECC said that Sills came to her home and told her that he had killed his girlfriend. Roach was found dead at the front entrance of the trailer.

42-year old James Bates, of Hopkinsville, was indicted for 3rd Degree Assault, Impersonating a Peace Officer, Terroristic Threatening, Menacing, Disorderly Conduct, and a 3rd offense Alcohol Intoxication. Police reports say they were called to Westgate Liquors where they made contact with Bates wearing a dark two piece suit with an American seal lapel pin. Officers say Bates was obviously intoxicated. He reportedly told officers that he was a Secret Service Agent and he was headed to a downtown bar for an investigation. As officers began arresting Bates, they say he became belligerent and threatened to kill them. Again he claimed to be a Federal Agent and said he would bring charges against the officers. The report says Bates has a known infectious disease and was taken to the hospital for a medical clearance. At the hospital Bates reportedly began yelling racial slurs and foul language. While being evaluated, the report says he attempted to hit an officer. At that point he was secured to the bed and he allegedly then began spitting at the officer. He was sedated but continued to use profane language until he was locked in the Christian County Jail. Reports say while at the hospital he again threatened to kill officers.
