First Candidate Forums - Trigg County


The first Candidate Forum was held at the Trigg County Schools Little Theatre in Cadiz. The Forums were for the Cadiz City Council, Trigg County Property Valuation Office, Trigg County Clerk and the Trigg County Sheriff's Office. The Forum was well attended and the questions were also answered that came directly from the audience.

Prizer Point Imagination Library Fundraiser Cruise


Greg and Lisa Batts held the Imagination Library Fundraising Cruise on their boat at Prizer Point Marina. Food was catered by Hancock's Neighborhood Market. It was a beautiful day for the cruise. Everyone one had a great time, and learned up to date information from Superintendant Travis Hamby and Dr. Scott Sutherland.

Cadiz Auto Parts Remote


Cadiz Auto Parts had Company Representative Tom in today to show and tell about the Echo line of products. There was even a chainsaw challenge where you tried to cut a 2 lb. piece of Walnut with an Echo Chainsaw. Cindy Allen Lax is still, the undisputed WKDZ winner. While we were there, it was quite busy with people coming in, buying chainsaws, needing batteries and other things.

Garland Nissan Titans Remote


Garland Nissan on Ft. Campbell Blvd. in Hopkinsville was the place for the latest Garlands Titan Club Level Ticket Give Away Remote!  The dealership was buzzing with lots of people buying their new and used cars, and one lucky person was the winner of the Club Level Tickets for Titans Game on October 26th when they play the Texans.

The Sand Pig Art was finished despite all the rain, and some hail that damaged the art. Goodwin Funeral Home came through with a tent that kept Damon Farmer's work intact the rest of the weekend. This is My Old Kentucky Ham!

Ham Festival Fireworks


The Ham Festival Fireworks, brought to the Ham Festival by Garland's Got It.com. This year was a mix of weather, but we escaped with enough good weather to make the Ham Festival a success overall. The rides will be open tomorrow with the petting zoo and some vendors open, and food will be available. Work will begin soon on the 39th Annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival.

Collin Raye


The Headline Act for the 38th Trigg County Country Ham Festival was Collin Raye. With 24 Top Ten Records, 16 #1 Hits and having been a 10 time male vocalist of the year, Collin Raye remains one of the great voices of our time. He engaged everyone tonight and made an inspirational performance at this year's Ham Festival.

The Henningsens


The Henningsens took the stage at the 38th Annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival. This band is a family affair as The Henningsens is composed of the father, brother and sister. Running the boards and mixers were other brothers and sisters. The Henningsens provided great entertainment at this year's Ham Festival.

Ham-Tastic Drawing


The Ham Tastic Drawing was held to give away Country Hams, and $100 bills!  Also, this is a time where other Booths gave away their Raffles, such as the National Federation of Wild Turkey Hunters, Ducks Unlimited, Lions Club and the Humane Society.

4-H Country Ham Auction


The 4-H Students who cured Country Ham as part of their 4-H Projects were raffled off. A portion of the proceeds goes to 4-H to further their cause, but a portion goes to the 4-Her for doing their project. This is a time when people and businesses band together and the country hams sell for thousands of dollars! This is a way to keep the country ham producer lineage alive and growing for the future!

Kayla Adams at Ham Festival


Kayla Adams was in concert today on the Renaissance Stage at the 38th Annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival. Kayla gave a tremendous concert and then welcomed pictures and autographs afterwards.

Biscuit Is Done and Served


The "World's Largest Edible Country Ham Biscuit" is Done! It cools some and then Helping Hands starts the process of cutting it into huge pieces. Then the ladies of Helping Hands put large chunks of Broadbent Country Ham on them. You get a huge piece of a biscuit made from scratch filled with delicious Broadbent Country Ham for $2!  What a deal!

I began with Angela taking the dough of the refrigerator for the Country Ham Biscuit. Then I watched as Helping Hands of Cadiz put the "World's Largest Edible Country Ham Biscuit" together, and put it in the oven. More pictures when it comes out of the oven!

Eleven young ladies competed for the title of Miss Trigg County 2014 during the annual pageant Thursday night at the Trigg County Schools Little Theater.  The pageant is sponsored each year by the Trigg County Band Boosters.

Ham Festival Breakfast 2014


The Trigg County Country Ham Fesitval Kick-Off Breakfast for 2014 began with a packed house at the Cadiz Baptist Annex this morning. Agriculture Commissioner James Comer was the Guest Speaker as he brought a wonderful message for the breakfast goers. Mr. Colley was the Farmer of the Year presented by Alan Watts of WKDZ and the Cadiz Lions Club was winner of the Spirit of Ham Festival award. 

14th Annual JSMC Womens Show - Friday


The 14th Annual Jennie Stuart Medical Center Western KY Women's Show was held at the James E. Bruce Convention Center. The Vendors were wall to wall and all kinds of information and several different tests were all available with no cost. The Bruce was full of people eager to learn about preventative care of all kinds.

JSMC Womens Show - Contest


The Jennie Stuart Medical Center Women's Show kicked off with the Be My Support Bra Contest at the James E. Bruce Convention Center. These are the contestantsfor that contest. The event runs all day Friday from 8am - 7pm.

Garlands RV Mega Center Titans Remote

Trigg County Thoroughbred Students


Trigg County students were recognized by Murray State University Bob Davies Tuesday for their participation in MSU's Thoroughbred Academy. The Cadiz Rotary Club has invested approximately $30,000 in the program for the 2014-15 school year.

Trigg County Schools Host Kentucky Leads The Nation


Seventy-four educators, community members and policy makers who are part of a group called Kentucky Leads the Nation toured Trigg County Schools Monday. They spent the day looking at some of the things the school system is doing through its District of Innovation status.

Trigg Co Schools Native American Culture Days


It was Native American Culture Day at the Trigg County Primary School for Kindergarten through the Third grade. The students rotated through six different stations to learn about Artifacts, Art, Music, Folk Tales, Dance, and Games of Native Americans. The News Edge was there to capture today's events!

The 25th Annual See You at the Pole, a student-led, global prayer initiative, saw more than 270 people gather around the flag pole on the front lawn of Trigg County High School on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014.

Cadiz Pharmacy Customer Appreciation Day


It was Customer Appreciation Day and the Grand Opening of the new Cadiz Pharmacy in Cadiz. There was a great turnout to support Cadiz Pharmacy with good times and lots of laughs. There were hamburgers and hotdogs served up by Jolly Farms. Cindy Allen Lax and Bill Booth were there on the Live Afternoon Drive with Bill Booth.

Nature Fest 2014


Nature Fest at Rivers Bend Environmental Center in Hopkinsville was held. Lots of people were there to help celebrate Nature. There were booths set up with activities such as pumpkin decorating and more. WHVO's Tony Winfield was there to bring you these pictures of the day's events.

Community Helpers including Pennyrile Electric, the Trigg County Road Department, local farmer Donovan Washer, the Cadiz Police Department, the Trigg CountySheriff's Department and the WKDZ-WHVO News Edge spoke with the Trigg County Primary Kindergarten classes Friday, September 19.

Eddie Owen and Becky Williamson were at Garland Powersports on the Blvd. in Hopkinsville across from Garland Nissan. You can see that Garland Powersports has ALL KINDS of motorcycles, scooters, 4 wheel vehicles, campers, off-road bikes, highway cruising bikes and lots, lots more!  There was a drawing for Two Club Level Tickets to the Titans/Browns game on October 5th.

Taste of the Pennyrile 2014


The Taste of the Pennyrile 2014 was held at the James E. Bruce Convention Center in Hopkinsville. There were over 30 Vendors serving up delicious food, smoothies, desserts and more! The Bruce was filled to capacity with people tasting the best of the Pennyrile. The Taste of the Pennyrile is a major fund raising event for Pennyroyal Hospice.

A large gathering of state and local officials, along with community members, turned out Thursday afternoon for the official groundbreaking for the new Breathitt Veterinary Center, in Hopkinsville. The News Edge was on hand and took these pictures.

The Trigg County Chamber of Commerce "Lunch and Learn" Meeting featured Trigg County's First Responders. The meeting fell on September 11, 2014. Trigg County Judge Hollis Alexander was the Guest Speaker at the event held at the Renaissance Center in downtown Cadiz.

Freedom Friday Chili Cookoff 2014


There were over 30 Teams cooking their chili today in the Freedom Friday Chili Cookoff. Spices, tomatoes, unknown spices and more sifted through the air in downtown Hopkinsville today. The 101st Band from Fort Campbell brought the wonderful music as everyone enjoyed the chili, snowcones, vendors, cotton candy, and each other during the day in downtown Hopkinsville.

City Of Hopkinsville Moves


The seat of Hopkinsville City government made the big move Friday from the Lackey Municipal Building on 1st Street to the new Hopkinsville Municipal Center in downtown. The News Edge was there to bring you pictures from the new Municipal Center.

Little Green Men could be seen in Kelly, KY


The 4th Anniversary of the Kelly Incident, which happened August 21, 1955 was held in Kelly. There were big green men and little green people. The music was good, food was great, and the Kelly Community knows how to put on a fun festival. If you could not go to Kelly for this Festival, make plans now to attend next year. Drew Wilson left the scene, or rather, was he abducted by the Little Green Men....

YMCA Construction of Multi-Purpose Area


The multi-purpose building will include a cross fit workout room, a spin room for stationary biking, as well as the facility offices for the Y. Phase I is on schedule to be completed by the end of the year. The full WKDZ News Edge News Story can be seen HERE!

Trigg County Schools Open On Time


Opening day for Trigg County students may have been uncertain due to ongoing construction, but staff and teachers welcomed students and parents at all four schools on August 6, as scheduled.

The Annual Gala of Tables Breakfast took place at Trigg County Schools. Teachers, Faculty and Staff were greeted by business and organization members with "Theme Decorated Tables."  Everyone had a great time and Superintendant Hamby gave a very inspiring and uplifting talk.

Our winners in the Ugly Bathroom Makeover now have an entirely new, and gorgeous, bathroom to enjoy. The Lexie Sabatino Eagles Poker Run 2014


The 12th Annual Lexie Sabatino Poker Run was Saturday. There were more than 400 bikes and vehicles that turned out. Money was raised by selling chances on a new Harley Davidson Motorcycle and more. Two families in need were helped and everyone had a great time supporting the Mission of the Lexie Sabatino Poker Run 2014. Alan Watts was there to share the event.

Back 2 Back Foundation Presents Brice Long & Friends


The Back 2 Back Foundation Presenting Brice Long and Friends Annual Fundraising Event was Saturday night. Back 2 Back supports Christian and Trigg Counties for families in need during Christmas and throughout the year. Lots of great music was provided by Brice Long and his friends and money was raised for a wonderful cause.

Take a sneak peek behind the scenes of construction at the Trigg County Primary and Intermediate Schools. Contractors and architects say school will be able to start as scheduled on Aug. 6.

Bee Hive Wreck - July 22


Those involved suffered only minor injuries, however a three vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon jammed up eastbound traffic on I-24 right at the state line, along with a "buzz" of activity. One of the vehicles involved in the crash was transporting bee hives. The News Edge's Travis Faulker braved the bees and took these pics.

James Thomas Marker Dedication


During the annual Thomas and Bridges Association Reunion, the Colonel Stephen Trigg Chapter of the SAR held a ceremony to place a commemorative marker at the gravesite of James Thomas, one of the earliest settlers in Trigg County, and a Revolutionary War veteran. The News Edge was there and took these pictures.

Change Of Command Ceremony

Campers on Mission Volunteer In Cadiz


Kentucky Campers on Mission are working on several service projects in Cadiz this week. In addition to building a pavilion at the Trigg County Senior Center, volunteers are building a new wheelchair ramp at Helping Hands and making quilts to give away.

May 15 - Interstate 24 Accident


Traffic on westbound I-24 in Trigg County was restricted Thursday morning in the wake of a tractor trailer accident, about two miles west of the intersecton with US 68. The rig spilled its load of pallets on the roadway. The News Edge reported LIVE from the scene and took these pictures.

There was a lot to celebrate The W.J. Hopson Memorial Kick-Off Breakfast Monday at the Lake Barkley State Resort Park Convention Center. Doors opened at 6 AM, and speakers for the breakfast were scholarship and grant recipients Rachel Sidebottom and Elle Jolly. Several items were auctioned by Judge Executive Hollis Alexander - the 'spirit of the rotary' was definitely in the air - we are off to another great year of helping the students and seniors of our community!

Organizers are calling the first Christian County Agribusiness Association Career Fair a success.  The event was co-sponsored by WKDZ and WHVO.
 

2014 Regional Mars Rover Competition at Trigg County


The 2014 regional Mars Rover competition was held at the Trigg County High School Gym on Monday, March 24. Thirty-three teams of fifth graders competed for a chance to advance to state competition in Lexington on May 10. 

Nashville Ballet Performs In Cadiz


The Nashville Ballet's Outreach Program brought performances of "Anne Frank" and "Ferdinand the Bull" to students at Trigg County Schools. A free performance on Thursday night allowed parents and community members to enjoy the show and speaker Dr. Clark Blatteis, a holocaust survivor.

KHSAA State Archery 2014 - Trigg County Arrowcats


The Trigg County Arrowcats brought home their second-consecutive KHSAA state-sanctioned title on Monday, March 18. The Arrowcats won the tournament with a total score of 3,457. Congrats, 'Cats!
