Hopkinsville Man Killed In Crash Involving Train

A Hopkinsville man was killed Friday afternoon in an accident involving an SUV and a CSX train. Christian County Deputy Coroner Mike Stokes identified the victim in the crash, as 24-year old Justin Johnson, of Hopkinsville, who was a Trigg County native.

The accident occurred around 1:30pm at the crossing on Old Concord Lane. The News Edge spoke with Public Information Officer Paul Ray near the scene of the crash.

Police reports say a witness who traveled over the railroad tracks in front of Johnson told police that the signal lights were working when she crossed the tracks.  Police say the train's conductor reported that Johnson's vehicle never slowed down as it entered the crossing and struck the front of the train.

Hopkinsville Police blocked off the scene in the immediate aftermath of the accident. Old Concord Lane was closed off at the intersection with North Main Street while the investigation into the crash was conducted. Reports indicate that CSX had to bring another engine to the site of the crash, as the engine involved in the crash suffered damage to headlights and some of its hydraulics
