Agreement Reached Over School Calendar Legisation



There is apparently a resolution to the school calendar stalemate between the Kentucky House and the Kentucky Senate. House and Senate negotiators Wednesday night reached an agreement to suspend the state law requiring school districts to have 170 days of classes, as long as school districts have at least 1,062 hours of classroom instruction.

Negotiators also reached an agreement for a firm end to the school year, even for districts that may not be able to reach the state mandated number of instructional hours. If, after using up school holidays, and cancelling spring break, a school district still cannot meet the 1,062 hour threshold, the school year will end on June 6.

Reports indicate that fewer than 10 school districts across the commonwealth would fit into that category.
