Dr Fired After Inmate Starved Himself To Death

An investigation into the starving death of an inmate at the Kentucky State Penitentiary continues at the Kentucky General's Office. Reports say Dr. Steven Hiland has been terminated from serving as a doctor at the facility after the January death of 57 year old James Kenneth Embry. Embry reportedly refused to intake any liquids as a part of his diet and died from starvation January 13th.

An internal investigation by the Department of Corrections found that Dr. Hiland and a psychologist Jean Hinkebein at the prison missed multiple signs that Embry was starving himself. It further claims that Hiland signed off on nurses notes with out seeing patients. Reports say Hinkebein is expected to be let go soon.

While the Department of Corrections has conducted their investigation, the Kentucky State Attorney General's office is also looking into the matter.
