It appears like the 2015 race for Governor in Kentucky is about to officially get underway. According to a report from the Courier Journal, sources say Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway has decided to run for the state’s top office, and an official announcement could come as early as Tuesday. Those same sources say Conway is expected to name state Representative Sannie Overly, of Paris, as his running mate.
Many believe Conway has been looking towards a run for Governor since he lost to Rand Paul in the 2010 race for the U.S. Senate. Conway, who was initially elected in 2007, easily won re-election in 2011, defeating Hopkins County Attorney Todd P'Pool. Conway had previously stated that he would make his announcement of whether or not he was running after the Kentucky Derby.
