Sumner Named HPD Deputy Chief



A veteran of more than ten years with the Hopkinsville Police Department is being promoted to be Deputy Chief. Hopkinsville Police Chief Guy Howie has announced that Captain Clayton Sumner will be promoted to the position effective immediately. Deputy Chief Sumner has been with the Hopkinsville Police Department since 2002. He was promoted to Corporal in 2006 and was assigned to the Detective Division. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2008 and was a Patrol Supervisor, before being assigned to oversee the Drug Unit. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2010 and was supervisor over the Patrol Division.

He was pro-promoted to Captain in 2012, where he was assigned over Patrol Division, Evidence Section, Drug Unit, Dispatch-patch Section, and Civilian Staff. As Deputy Chief, Sumner will be over seeing the day to day operations of the Hopkinsville Police Department.
