Hopkinsville Memorial Day Observances

Officials with the city of Hopkinsville are announcing that the annual VFW Post 1913 Memorial Day observances will be taking place Monday. The first observance begins at 9:00am, at Riverside Cemetery, and will feature the rededication of the cemetery chapel.

The chapel was renovated with funds from a designated city perpetual care trust fund account, which is funded by interest on cemetery plot sales revenue. The cost of the project was $71,524.

The program at Riverside will include remarks by Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp and Christian County Historian William Turner. VFW Post 1913 Commander John Brame will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The ceremony will also feature presentation of colors by the Pennyrile Honor Guard, taps played by Johnny Brown, and a wreath laying.

Later Monday morning, at 11:00am, there will be a commemoration at Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery West, which will include remarks, a wreath laying, and the annual furnishing of a new American flag.
