UK Softball Advances To Women's College World Series

The University of Kentucky softball team found itself with its back against the wall Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles. After a tough loss to #3 UCLA Saturday, #14 UK needed to win two games in one afternoon on the Bruins home field to advance to its first ever appearance in the Women’s College World Series. UK took the first step in that direction Sunday afternoon with a 7-3 win to force the deciding Game Three less than an hour later.

In the deciding contest, UK scored three runs in the third inning, giving sophomore pitcher Kelsey Nunley all the run support she needed, as the Wildcats defeated UCLA 7-1 in the NCAA Los Angeles Super Regional, sending them to the 2014 Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. Christian County High School graduate Griffin Joiner, who starts at catcher for UK, went 3 for 6 Sunday, with 2 RBIs.
