Motive Unclear In Vine Street Murder

The motive for the fatal shooting on Vine Street earlier this month remains unclear after testimony Wednesday morning during a preliminary hearing. Brandon Smith appeared in Christian District Court in the case of the murder of Keon Grant. Hopkinsville Police Detective Randall Green testified before District Judge Jim Adams about the events that led to the death of Grant.

Smith's attorney Eric Bearden questioned Detective Green about statements given by Grant's wife and others.

Green also testified that Grant was shot twice in the back and only three shell casings were found at the scene, all of which came from a .45 caliber pistol. Judge Adams found sufficient cause to believe that both crimes were perpetrated, and it's likely both were committed by Smith. The case was bound over to the Christian County Grand Jury to review.

Grant was found lying dead in the street near the intersection of Vine Street and 1st Street. Smith was arrested the following week on charges of Murder and a Convicted Felon in possession of a handgun.
