Hopkins County Teen Sentenced In 2012 Shootings

A total of 18 years in prison is the sentence handed down against a Hopkins County teenage who killed his mother and tried to kill his stepfather. 18-year old Adam Teems was formally sentenced Monday after entering guilty pleas to charges of Manslaughter and Attempted Murder back in April. Teems was originally charged with Murder and Attempted Murder in connection to the shootings, which occurred in August of 2012 in Dalton.

According to WFIE-TV, after mental evaluations, experts believed he was under extreme emotional disturbance at the time of the crime, which led to the reduced charge. 45-year-old Rose Riley died after being shot a point blank range, while 51-year old Keith Riley was injured in the shootings.
