UPDATE - Police ID Suspect Arrested After Robbery At U.S. Bank

Hopkinsville police have identified the suspect taken into custody in connection with a robbery Wednesday morning at US Bank, at 3213 Lafayette Road.

According to Public Information Officer Paul Ray, the man charged in connection with the robbery is 36 year old Azikiwe Maduka, of Hopkinsville. The robbery took place around 10:30am with Miduka captured just over an hour later in the 3200 block of Cox Mill Road.

The News Edge spoke with Public Information Officer Paul Ray on the scene.

Chuck Marquess was working at the Hopkinsville High School Rick Cohn Aquatic Center as the suspect was fleeing.

Marquess says he didn't realize what had happened until he began to leave the area.

Ray says from the point the subject fled the scene, a dragnet was cast out, which finally resulted in his arrest.

Upon leaving the bank, police say the suspect headed back up Kaufman Drive, into the area of Hopkinsville High School. He later then forced his way into the home at 214 Beaumont Court, where he took clothing and then continued on his way. Lynn Cohn, whose late husband is the namesake for the high school pool, lives next door at 216 Beaumont Court.

Maduka, who was captured a short time later, is charged with 1st Degree Robbery and 2nd Degree Burglary.
