Cold Not Hindering Hopkinsville King Day Events

Monday's Martin Luther King, Jr, Day activities in Hopkinsville are still on track despite the cold temperatures and the chance of more snow. According to Hopkinsville-Christian County Chapter of the NAACP the annual march will begin at 10:00 at the Boys and Girls Club on Walnut Street.

Organizers say registration for the School Challenge, sponsored by Tom Bell State Farm Insurance, will begin at 9:45. The winner will receive a skating party and a traveling trophy. Youth are encouraged to wear school colors, bring banners, posters and any paraphernalia that represents their school or Dr. King.

Also, the Day Care Center with the most participants will receive a pizza party sponsored by The Gap Ministries. The youngest and oldest marchers will also be recognized.

The march will conclude at Durrett Avenue Baptist Church, with the march to begin at 11:00 at the church. This year's featured speaker will be Moores Baptist Church Pastor Reverend C. R. Miller. The host pastor is Revend Johnny Deeds.
