They are reporting that members of the public and media have made excessive attempts to contact them in recent days, requesting private information and interviews. Trooper Cash says families have also endured negative and inappropriate comments on social media.
KSP asks all members of the public and media to respect the dignity and privacy of the victims and their families.
According to Trooper Cash, one of the families has asked state police to release the following statement on their behalf: "Please stop calling and texting us, especially our minor children who are victims. It is inappropriate and hurtful to our already grieving families."
A 15-year old Marshall County High School student is charged with two counts of Murder and twelve counts of 1st Degree Assault. He will reportedly remain in custody after a hearing in Marshall County Thursday morning. Prosecutors announced Wednesday afternoon the juvenile will be charged as an adult. His case will go be presented to the grand jury February 13.
Tuesday morning, the juvenile is accused of walking into the commons area of the high school around 7:57 where he opened fire on students. Police reported 15-year old Bailey Holt died on the scene and 15-year old Preston Cope succumbed to his injuries at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Eighteen others were also injured and transported to hospitals in the region.
