Man Injured And Facing Charges After Christian County Wreck

Police say a Hopkinsville man injured in a wreck Sunday afternoon was cited to court to face charges after he gets out of the hospital. The Christian County Sheriff's Office says they received a call of a collision around 5:00pm on Fruit Hill Red Bridge Road but there were no occupants around the vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies say they met with the owner of the vehicle who stated her son was driving when the crash occurred. During an investigation, deputies determined the vehicle fell off the right side of the road and sideswiped a couple of trees and then came to rest with the front end against a tree.

According to the report, deputies located the driver, 33-year old Jason Birdsong and he was bleeding from his right ear and actually had cartilage hanging out of his ear. They indicate he had slurred speech and was very unstable on his feet. Deputies also say his driver's license is suspended for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Birdsong stated to deputies a deer ran out in front of him, causing him to swerve off the road.

Upon arrival at the emergency room to get medical clearance for Birdsong to be transported to jail, deputies say they learned that test had revealed Birdsong had a fractured neck and needed to be transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. He was cited to court to face charges, but the offenses are not listed on the accident report.
