A bank robbery suspect who barricaded himself inside a Clarksville motel room Friday morning is in police custody. Clarksville Police spokesman Jim Knoll reports Mike Rollins was arrested peacefully after tear gas was deployed in a room at the Motel 6 on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.
Knoll says officers worked throughout the night and received several tips after the suspect’s photo was released to media. Police tracked Rollins down to room 222 at the Motel 6 and made contact with him around 2:15 Friday morning. He was taken into custody around 7:30am.
Rollins was wanted in connection to a robbery at Bank of America,, located 1811 Madison Street, after police say he walked into the bank around 2:12 Thursday afternoon and handed the clerk a note telling her to give him money. She complied, and he left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. Police report Rollins did, in fact, display a gun after he handed the teller the note.
Rollins was lodged in the Montgomery County Jail charged with robbery, probation violation, and forgery. Police say Rollins has an extensive criminal history and is currently out on bond for drug related charges.
