Unemployment rates fell in 119 Kentucky counties, including all counties in the Pennyrile, between January 2017 and January 2018, according to the Kentucky Center for Education and Workforce Statistics. In Caldwell County, the jobless rate fell to 4.6 percent in January of this year from 6.2 percent in January 2017.
In Christian County, the unemployment rate in January 2018 was 4.8 percent, down from 6.7 percent from January 2017.
In Hopkins County, the jobless rate dropped in January 2018 to 4.1 percent, compared to 6.0 percent in January of last year.
In Lyon County, the January 2018 unemployment rate was 5.3 percent, down from 8.4 percent in January 2017.
In Todd County, the unemployment rate fell in January 2018 to 3.9 percent, compared to 4.5 percent during the same time period.
In Trigg County, the jobless rate for January 2018 was 5.3 percent, down from 7.1 percent in January 2017.
Officials report the unemployment rate between January 2017 and January 2018 only rose in one county, Carter County.
Woodford County continued to record the lowest jobless rate in the state at 2.9 percent, while Magoffin County continued to record the state’s highest unemployment rate at 15.2 percent.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for work within the past four weeks.
