Trigg County and Caldwell County are among several counties across the state that President Donald Trump has authorized funding assistance in the aftermath of severe weather and flooding events that occurred from February 21 through March 21.
Governor Matt Bevin sent President Trump a letter earlier this month requesting a Presidential Disaster Declaration for the counties impacted by weather events. Bevin says he is grateful to the President for issuing an official disaster declaration that will provide more than one-quarter of Kentucky’s counties with federal assistance for important resources to continue recovery efforts.
President Trump’s action grants public assistance to 34 impacted counties, including Trigg and Caldwell, to repair roads, bridges and other infrastructure due to severe storms, tornadoes, flooding, landslides and mudslides. The declaration will also provide the Commonwealth with mitigation fundings.
Bevin had also included Christian County on the Presidential Disaster Declaration request after an EF-2 tornado ripped through Hopkinsville on February 24. However, according to the release, Christian County is not among the 34 counties granted assistance.
