If you have been in the Golden Pond area of Land Between the Lakes in Trigg County this week, you may have noticed a restored ‘Civil War Sniper’ marker that was recently dedicated.

Jim Pearce Camp #2527 Sons of the Confederate Veterans and Kentucky Division of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans compatriots gathered May 12 to dedicate the restored Kentucky Highway Historical Marker relating the story of John “Captain Jack” Hinson, according to Jim Pearce Camp spokesman Zack Cummins. He says Hinson was a Stewart County, Tennessee farmer who engaged in a one-man sniper mission of revenge against Union troops occupying the Between the Rivers area of western Kentucky and Tennessee after two of his sons were executed and beheaded by Union soldiers during the Civil War.

Cummins says the Jim Pierce Camp raised the funds to replace the ‘Civil War Sniper’ marker that had gone missing, presumed stolen.
