A traffic stop in Madisonville Wednesday afternoon led to the arrest of an Earlington man for trafficking drugs and two others for possessing drugs.

The Madisonville/Hopkins County Vice/Narcotics Unit says detectives were conducting surveillance on Weldon Avenue due to recent drug trafficking complaints when at 1:45pm they observed the driver of a SUV leave a residence and commit a traffic violation. Detectives say a back seat passenger, 64-year old David Stone of Earlington, tried to throw a baggie of methamphetamine and two Percoset pills as he got out of the vehicle. Detectives detained Stone and reportedly found two more baggies containing crack cocaine in his clothing.

During a search of the vehicle, the report says detectives found another baggie of meth and items of drug paraphernalia underneath the front passenger seat occupied by 41-year old Derek Magness, of Madisonville, which he admitted belonged to him. Stone and Magness were taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County Jail.
