A man who allegedly hit a police officer in the mouth and had to be restrained by several officers Friday afternoon is facing multiple charges.
Hopkinsville Police report officers responded to a disturbance call on Younglove Street just after 2:20 Friday afternoon. When officers made contact with 23-year old Devon Williamson, they say he was very upset. Williamson was taken into custody on active warrants and police then began a search incident to arrest. During the search, police say Williamson constantly pulled away and then swung his elbow around and struck a female officer in the mouth, at which time he was taken to the ground. Police report Williamson continued to fight and resist arrest and had to be restrained by multiple officers and restraint devices in order to secure him in the patrol car. The female officer also reported she received abrasions and bruises to her hands caused by Williamson fighting on the pavement.
Williamson was taken to the emergency room at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and medically cleared. He was then taken to the Christian County Jail, where police say the combative behavior continued. He was charged with Resisting Arrest, 3rd Degree Assault of Police Officer, 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief, and 2nd Degree Disorderly Conduct.
