Fort Campbell officials have released the name of the soldier killed in a training accident Wednesday. According to Army officials, 19-year old Private 2nd Class Jeremy Wells, of Adairsville, Georgia was conducting weapons training at a small arms range on the military base when the incident happened. He was treated immediately and medically evacuated to Blanchfield Community Hospital on Fort Campbell where officials say he died of his wounds. No other soldiers were injured.
Fort Campbell officials say Pvt. Wells was an aircraft electrician in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. He joined in the Army in 2017 and completed training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Fort Eustis, Virginia before arriving at Fort Campbell. His decorations include National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Basic Aviation Badge. In addition, he was posthumously awarded the Army Commendation Medal and Army Good Conduct Medal.
Commander of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade Lieutenant Colonel Clayton Johnson says they have lost an incredible member of the Destiny Family. He adds, “our thoughts and prayers are with the family members of this soldier.” He asks that everyone respect the privacy of his family as they grieve this tragic loss.
Fort Campbell officials say the cause of the incident is under investigation.
