During last week’s Christian County School Board meeting, Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill recognized Cumberland Hall Principal Chris Gilkey and staff after their alternative education program was recognized by the Kentucky Department of Education.
School officials stated Cumberland Hall’s alternative education program exists to meet the needs of students that cannot be addressed in a traditional classroom setting but through an alternative classroom designed to remediate academic performance, improve behavior or provide an enhanced learning experience.
During the presentation, Gemmill said it’s sad but it’s a real situation that there are some students in the district whom have mental health problems. She added the staff at Cumberland Hall is some of the finest to keep the education process going.
Cumberland Hall was presented a certificate at the board meeting for the 2018 Alternative Program of Distinction.
