A man who attempted to rob a bank in Clarksville Tuesday morning has been identified.
The Clarksville Police Department charged and booked 25-year old Muhammad Talik Shahid of Clarksville into the Montgomery County jail for criminal attempted aggravated robbery. His bond is set at $150,000 dollars. Police says he does not have any previous local criminal history.
Clarksville Police Department Public Information Officer Jim Knoll reports an armed man, with his face partially covered, walked into U.S. Bank located at 3301 Fort Campbell Boulevard around 10:40 a.m. and gave the teller a note demanding money. He says the would-be robber had a gun on his side but did not point it at the teller. The suspect, for an unknown reason, quickly departed the bank before receiving any money.
Knoll indicates a citizen saw the man exit the bank with his face partially covered and alerted an Oak Grove Police officer about the suspect leaving the bank with a mask. The officer then followed the suspect’s vehicle to the Circle K gas station at 601 Tiny Town Road where it stopped to possibly put gas in the car. As the Oak Grove officer sat and observed the car at the gas pumps, Knoll says Clarksville Police arrived and took the man into custody without incident. Police reportedly found a gun and additional items in the vehicle that were seized for investigative purposes.
According to Knoll, Clarksville Police are coordinating with the F.B.I. on the investigation of this case and no additional details or suspect information will be released at this time.
