Longtime Churchill Downs Spokesman Passes Away

A longtime beloved member of the Churchill Downs family and Louisville community, John Asher passed away Monday morning, according to Churchill Downs officials. A news release says Asher died after suffering a heart attack while on vacation with his family in Florida.

62-year old Asher was an ambassador for Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby, and joined the home of the Kentucky Derby in January 1997, and has served as vice president of the Racing Communications since March 1999.

Asher was born in Leitchfield on November 22, 1955, and was an alum of Western Kentucky University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters and two grandsons.
