Police say a Hopkinsville man who crashed into the guardrail on West 7th Street in front of the Speed Queen laundry mat was arrested for his second DUI and other offenses early Sunday morning.
Officers responded to the scene just before 4:00 and found the driver, 40-year old Christopher Burrell standing near the accident scene. Police say Burrell stated he had fallen asleep behind the wheel and drove off the road; however, officers detected an odor of alcohol, slurred speech, and red glassy eyes. Burrell reportedly admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the morning, and officers say they found an open container of liquor in the vehicle.
According to the report, Burrell was arrested for a DUI and upon arrival at the jail requested medical attention. He was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he began to yell vulgar and obscene language at nurses, and then would jump up from a seated position and act as if he was going to headbutt police. Burrell then refused medical attention and was taken back to the jail.
Burrell was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs under aggravating circumstances, 2nd offense, Possession of an Open Alcoholic Container in a Motor Vehicle, 2nd Degree Disorderly Conduct, and Menacing.
