The Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant for vehicle extrication equipment and a gear washer.
A social media post says the fire department will receive $48,572 to ensure firefighters are able to efficiently and safely get patients out of motor vehicle accidents in their district and surrounding districts when needed. The grant will also go toward purchasing a gear wasHer — the first in the county — to allow members to wash their gear after fires to help prevent the spread of contamination and lower their cancer risk.
