UPDATE: HHS Students Return To Class After Scene Cleared

Students at Hopkinsville High School have returned to classrooms after being evacuated as a precautionary measure Wednesday afternoon while firefighters investigated a smell coming from the ceiling on the second floor.

Public Information Officer Captain Michael Pendleton tells the News Edge firefighters from two Hopkinsville stations responded to the high school around 11:54 Wednesday afternoon and determined the smell was a ballast in a lighting fixture that had gone out. He says students were evacuated as a precautionary measure while firefighters worked to determine what was causing the smell.

According to Captain Pendleton, all fire units cleared the scene around 1:35 p.m.

There have been no injuries reported.
