As families and friends gather for Thanksgiving, fire officials are encouraging everyone to take several precautions to ensure a safe and happy holiday.
Hopkinsville Fire Department Public Information Office Captain Michael Pendleton says Thanksgiving is a peak day for home cooking fires followed by other holidays.

In order an effort to combat that and get the numbers lowered, he says they are offering several safety cooking tips, including always staying in the kitchen while cooking.

In addition, Captain Pendleton notes you should make sure your smoke alarms are working in order to minimize any cooking fire mishap.
