A Hopkinsville man is facing charges after he fled the scene of a hit and run accident at East 9th and Belmont streets Thursday evening. According to Hopkinsville Police, the accident occurred around 5:20 p.m. and 35-year old Duane Ramsey fled the scene on foot. Officers reportedly ran the Kentucky license plate but it did not match the vehicle; however, they were able to trace the car to Ramsey through the VIN number.

Police say they found Ramsey on McHenry Drive and he smelled of an alcoholic beverage, had glassy bloodshot eyes and admitted he had been drinking. Police say he also admitted to switching the license plate. The report shows Ramsey registered a .12 on a breathalyzer test.

According to police, the wreck occurred when Ramsey was traveling south on Belmont Street and failed to stop at the intersection and hit a van driven by Fidel Martinez of Hopkinsville. Ramsey’s car then continued across 9th Street into the path of a vehicle driven by James Forrest-King of Clarksville. Officer say Forrest-King identified Ramsey as the driver who fled the scene on foot.

Ramsey was arrested and lodged in the Christian County Jail charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and other offenses.
