Unemployment rates rose in 76 Kentucky counties, including seven of the nine counties in the Pennyrile region, between October 2017 and October 2018, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics. In the Pennyrile region, two counties showed a drop in the jobless rate from October 2017 to October of this year.
The highest employment rate was reported in Muhlenberg County for October 2018 at 6.0 percent, compared to 5.3 percent in October of last year, while the lowest jobless rate in the Pennyrile was reported in Todd County at 3.8 percent for October of this year, but was up from 3.2 percent from October 2017.
In Caldwell County, the unemployment rate for October 2018 was 4.4 percent, up from 4.2 percent in the same month last year.
In Christian County, the jobless rate for October was 5.1 percent, up from 4.8 percent in October 2017.
In Lyon County, the unemployment rate rose to 5.0 percent in October 2018 compared to 4.2 percent in October of last year.
The statistics show the jobless rate fell in Livingston and Trigg counties during that same time period. In Trigg County, the unemployment rate for October 2018 was 4.4 percent, down from 4.7 percent in October 2017.
Woodford County continued to record the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 3.2 percent, while Maggofin County continued to record the highest unemployment rate in the state at 11.3 percent.
The state’s unemployment rates are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
