Christian Co. Charges Dismissed Against Trigg Murder Suspect

The theft and tampering charges against the man accused in connection to the death of Joey Hayes in Trigg County last month have been dismissed in Christian County.

43-year old James Gentry of Hopkinsville, along with his attorney Michael Thompson, and Assistant County Attorney Maureen Leamy appeared in Christian District Court before Judge James Adams for a preliminary hearing Monday afternoon. Leamy filed a motion requesting the charges be dismissed because all of the offenses occurred in Trigg County.


Judge Adams granted the prosecutor’s motion.

Gentry was initially charged with tampering with physical evidence and theft by unlawful taking in Christian County. In Trigg County, he is facing charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence.Gentry was arrested by state police November 30 in the alleged shooting death of Hayes, whose body was found November 28 on a farm in the 400 block of Buffalo Road in Trigg County. State Police reported Hayes died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Gentry will appear for a preliminary hearing in Trigg District Court Tuesday morning at 10:00 on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence.
