The sounds of seasonal music and the reason for the season will be celebrated Sunday evening during the 2nd annual Community Festival of Lessons and Carols at the historic Grace Episcopal Church. The Festival of Lessons and Carols is a service of worship celebrating the birth of Jesus, which began in 1878 at The Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in England. Church officials say the popularity of the service has spread worldwide.
According to a release, the service at Grace Episcopal Church will feature readings and music by members of the parish as well as several community members.
Church officials say the length of the service is ideal for families, and symbolism and decor will provide a traditional holiday experience. Following the approximately hour-long service, everyone is welcome to a festive dessert reception for seasonal celebration and to continue to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.
The Festival of Lessons and Carols will begin at 5:30 Sunday afternoon at Grace Episcopal Church located at 216 East 6th Street in downtown Hopkinsville.
