Thirty-eight Kentucky National Guardsmen were welcomed home after a special homecoming that featured Governor Matt Bevin and federal and state military officials Friday morning.
The Louisville-based 101st Main Command Post-Operational Detachment served alongside with 101st Airborne Division soldiers over past 12 months for a train-up period and a deployment to Afghanistan.
101st Airborne Division Air Assualt Acting Senior Commander Brigadier General Todd Royar says it is truly amazing what this group has done over the last year.
Governor Matt Bevin says this event just adds to the history of December 14.
Bevin thanked the Guardsmen, who he says all came together to protect our great nation.
Detachment officer in charge Major Elizabeth Chamberlain says they have learned a lot over the last year while deployed.
According to Chamberlain, each of the 38 Guardsmen get to keep the Airborne patches on their uniforms.
The ceremony took place at the 101st Airborne Headquarters, where over 100 people gathered to welcome the group back to Kentucky.
