The National Weather Service says a storm system will bring heavy rain, strong gusty winds, and a chance of thunderstorms to our region the next couple of days.
The period of heaviest rain will arrive late Sunday night and continue through Monday morning. Heavy rainfall amounts from 1 to 2 inches are expected, with isolated higher totals in any thunderstorms that occur.
South winds on Monday will increase to around 20 mph after the steady rain ends. Some gusts may reach 40 mph. There is a chance of thunderstorms, which will be capable of even stronger winds. The potential for thunderstorms will be mainly over western Kentucky.
The wind, rain, and thunderstorm hazards will end by sunset as a cold front passes to our east. If you plan travel or other holiday activities Monday, listen for later forecasts and plan accordingly.
