Governor Matt Bevin issued a letter to the Tennessee Valley Authority CEO Friday stressing the importance of the Paradise Fossil Plant in Muhlenberg County.
In the letter to CEO Bill Johnson, Governor Bevin asserts that the closure of Unit 3, just northeast of Drakesboro would have a devastating impact on the local economy and the long-term reliability and resilience of the regional and national energy grid.
Governor Bevin outlined several concerns with a permanent shutdown of the facility and reiterated his commitment as Governor to coal as an energy source. Bevin says “in Kentucky, we respect and value our coal-fired power plants and we strongly oppose any efforts to prematurely retire any of our fleet.”
Unit 3 at the Paradise Fossil Plant is the only remaining coal-firing unit at the plant located just off Highway 176 in the small community of Paradise.
