A traffic stop in Madisonville Tuesday morning led to the arrest of a Slaughters man for trafficking drugs.
The Madisonville/Hopkins County Vice Narcotics Unit reports 32-year old James “JB” Scott was pulled over at the intersection of North Scott Street and Slaton Avenue for not wearing a seatbelt. Detectives reportedly have been investigating Scott’s involvement in the distribution of large quantities of crystal meth over the past month and were aware he had an active parole violation warrant. Police say Scott was arrested on the warrant and when detectives conducted a probable cause search of his vehicle they found approximately an ounce of suspected crystal meth, two ounces of suspected high-grade marijuana, a large bag of Gabapentin pills, assorted drug paraphernalia and a large sum of cash.
Scott was booked into the Hopkins County Jail charged with first degree trafficking a controlled substance (meth over 2 grams), third-degree trafficking a controlled substance (over 20 dosage units), trafficking marijuana under 8 ounces and other offenses.
