A Clarksville Police officer was recognized for his actions during an emergency situation that occurred last year, Friday.
The department reports Officer Steven Deering was responding to a 911 call on November 17 around 10:00 PM where a woman had shot her boyfriend in the leg. When he arrived on scene and noticed the man was unresponsive with a gunshot wound in his left thigh. Deering reportedly cut away the victim’s clothing, determined the wound was an arterial bleed and applied a tourniquet.
When emergency personnel arrived, the victim was transported by Life Flight to Vanderbilt Medical Center and underwent surgery for a lacerated artery. An EMS supervisor reported the victim had about 90 seconds before he would have bled out completely but Officer Deering’s actions prevented that from happening.
