A former daycare worker at First United Methodist Church charged with the alleged abuse of two infants appeared for a preliminary hearing in Christian District Court Friday morning.
Allison Simpson, of Hopkinsville, and her public defender at the hearing, Sands Chewning, and Assistant County Attorney Maureen Leamy informed Judge Foster Cotthoff she was waiving her case to the grand jury.
Simpson is charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and one count of second-degree criminal abuse – child under 12 or under.
Simpson was arrested by Hopkinsville Police on January 30. An arrest warrant filed by police alleges she subjected an 8-month old and a 10-month old to cruel care and confinement on January 10 of this year at the daycare. The incident reportedly placed both babies in substantial danger of serious physical injury. The warrant indicates the alleged incidents were captured on video.
Simpson formerly worked in the baby room at First United Methodist Church. All the employees in the baby room were reportedly dismissed February 1 and Hopkinsville Police Detectives began an investigation into the allegations.
