The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has released an update on the work that will need to be completed in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24, near Nashville to get the roadway back under normal operation.

In a video update released earlier this week, Assistant Chief Engineer of Operations Will Reid reports the work site is dangerous and will take a while to clean up the approximate 5,000 dump truck loads of soil and debris.

He adds TDOT crews have a three-step process they are working on now.

Reid expects crews to have the two-lane roadway diversion completed by Friday, March 15, with the clean-up taking much longer.

According to TDOT, the landslide at mile marker 42 occurred Saturday night, February 23 around 10:00 following a heavy rainfall event across the region. A detour is currently set up by taking Exit 40/Old Hickory Boulevard to Interstate 65.
